Florida Latina First Runner-Up attends Miami and The Beaches Special Monopoly Edition Co
cktail
Miami, FL November 13, 2008 – Miami now is among the list of cities that has its own custom game of Monopoly, along with everything you’d expected from Miami such as pink and teal bungalows.
The games began on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, when Monopoly officials launched the game with a party hosted by the City of Miami Beach and Ocean Drive Magazine at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, which is also a spot on the board. Among the guest to enjoy an exclusive preview of the new game along with cocktails, bites and special performance by the New World Symphony was our very own 1st Runner-up at the Miss Florida Latina 2008 Pageant, Natalia Escobar.
“I had a wonderful time” says Natalia, who was mesmerized by the tiny flamingo, alligator, airboat, lifeguard stand and an Art Deco hotel – which are the playing pieces of the new game. In fact Natalia agrees with other guests of the event, in that having Lincoln Road
and Ocean Drive substitute Park Placeand Boardwalk gives the game a distinctive Beach vibe customary of Miami. The game, which is the creation of Coconut Grove resident Maria Eugenia Bacó who started playing Monopoly when she was 8 years old in her hometown of Ponce, Puerto Rico, also incorporated other tourism hot spots throughout Miami-Dade such as Vizcaya and Wynwood in Miami, Fairchild Tropical Gardens and the Venetian pool in Coral Gables. In fact Miami is such a hot spot, that the Miss Florida Latina Organization will also honor this city by having its first official Miami City preliminary to the Miss Florida Latina Pageant, on February of 2009. The selection process will start with an open Casting Call for hopeful models, actress, dancers, or any young lady of Hispanic Heritage who wants to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. For more information on the Casting Call and to obtain an application, you can visit www.missfloridalatina.com/bethenextmisslatina.aspx.
Monopoly Miami and the Beaches edition can be found at local bookstores and at www.monopolymiami.com. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Miami Design Preservation League, a nonprofit group dedicated to saving local landmarks.
