Q: How should I prepare for the interview or casting call?

A: Dress to impress. You will be evaluate according to style, presence and charm, and most importantly if you have the qualities and desire to become the next Miss Florida Latina.

A: No. Each year we accept a limited number of participants. After you have undergone the interview process and you are indeed accepted to participate, we ask that you rsvp in 14 days so we can hold your place.
A: No. Our team of experts provides contestant a series of free training seminars well before the event begins, in order to teach new contestants and help experienced contestants brush up on their skills. We go over personal development & improving self-esteem, interview skills, career development, runway techniques, wardrobe essentials, exercise & nutrition, how to market yourself as a model and more. Through these workshops all contestants will know what to expect and will be equally prepared for the State Competition.
Some contestants have a lot of experience and some have none at all. Some of our past titleholders won on their first try, and others entered many times before winning the crown.

Q: How does this pageant differ from other Pageants?
A: The Miss Florida Latina Pageant is THE premier pageant for Latina's in the state of Florida. It is the only Latina pageant leading to a national event, and subsequently an international event, plus it is the most prestigious and famous pageant in the state of Florida for Latinas in the U.S.; as well as the longest-running, since 1983.

Rich in history and social significance, the Miss Florida Latina Pageant is different from other pageants in that we empower young Latina women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.  Participating in the Miss Florida Latina Pageant prepares you for a career and provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience, working on issues of importance to society, enhancing your personal and professional skills and developing your performance-related and other talents. Our team of directors is composed of dynamic, enthusiastic, experienced and professional individuals who have a track record of ethical standards and success.

The Miss Florida Latina Pageant is the only Latina pageant in Florida that has been recognized by Hon. Governor Charlie Crist, Hon. Mayor Richard Crotty, and Hon. Mayor Buddy Dyer, as an organization that recognizes current achievements of Latinas while building self-esteem among our young women. We are the only Latina event in Florida where contestants have the opportunity to meet with their mayors in order to discuss issues of importance to them.

Q: How are contestants judged?
A: Judging is based on three equal categories of Interview, Swimsuit and Evening Gown. There is no talent competition. Height and weight is not a factor but it should be proportionate to your body frame. Previous pageant or modeling experience is not necessary, all contestants receive professional pageant training and guidance by our team of pageant experts who have more than 30 years of experience in pageantry. For more informatino visit our Pageant Tips page.

Q: Since this is a Latina Pageant, do I have to speak Spanish?
A: Our Organization understands that most contestants were either born or raised in the US, so English may be their first language. Therefore, language should not be of a concern to you. In the pageant you can speak English or Spanish, whichever is most comfortable for you.  Personal interviews with judges will be conducted in the language you feel most comfortable speaking.

Q: What clothing will I be expected to have?
A: You will be advised upon the acceptance of your entry of exact clothing requirements. Expect to need evening gown, business attire and casual attire for rehearsals. You do not need to buy new clothes. You do not need to spend fortunes on an interview outfit and an evening gown. It is most important to find outfits that you will feel confident in and that best suit you and your personality. You can bring a selection of the outfits you have in your closet and our specialists will help you pick a competition wardrobe.

Q: Is it costly to participate in a pageant?
A: No. There is a registration fee, which is really low, MUCH lower than other pageants, this is why we can't disclose exactly what that fee is. Our goal is for contestants to collect 100% of this fee through sponsorship. We even have a sponsorship class, with marketing techniques to teach you from a business owner point of view how to approach sponsors and how not to take no for an answer. Sponsorship fees are a tax-deductible advertising expense for those businesses that assist you with sponsorship. If you work hard on collecting sponsorship, it is possible that you will not incur any expenses out of pocket. In addition, hard working contestants receive material item sponsorships, such as a dress, tanning, a haircut, etc. We also have easy credit options.

Q: Do I have time for a Beauty Pageant?
A: ABSOLUTELY. How it happens is by weaving the basics of Pageantry into your life little by little by doing something every day until this becomes a habit. There's a great quote – that says “the harder I work, the luckier I get”. Focus on doing something every day, every week and every year to build my pageantry skills to get you closer to the crown. Practice the different areas of the competition every week. You can go over your bathing suit or evening gown walk, go to the gym, or even record yourself reading motivational books or your Pageant notes. Block your calendar ahead of time. Really shoot to fill in those empty spots. If you're working full time, you've go to know when you're available for those open dates when you can work on your pageantry skills. You will feel good when you've made a huge difference in your life. Many people will use the excuse, I can't do it. I can't do it because of other obligations. No one has had a fuller plate than our director; a previous contestant for mayor local, state, national and international pageants, yet she has still been able to do it. We believe in you!

Q: What prizes do the winners receive?
A: Each Titleholder is awarded prizes from the event's official sponsors, including an all expense paid trip to Nationals. The crowned Miss Florida Latina winner automatically advances, representing the entire state of Florida and her country of heritage, at the Miss Latina US Pageant held during National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15). The Miss Latina US winner advances, representing the United States, to the International Miss Latin America Pageant at an international resort location in May/June of the following year.

The crowned Miss Teen Florida Latina winner automatically advances, representing the entire state of Florida, to the Miss Teen Latina US Pageant . There is no international Miss Teen America Latina Pageant.

Q: If I win, will it interfere with school or work?
A: NO! Our program only encourages your success! All of our contestants go to school, have a job or both. Almost all of your appearances, celebrity events, and charity work will take place during the weekend and will be scheduled in advance.

Q: If I'm a runner-up at the Miss Florida Latina event, can I attend nationals?
A: Yes. As a runner-up you automatically become a qualified to participate in the National pageant. You may decide to attend the National pageant where you will be treated the same as the Miss Florida Latina titleholder and have a second chance at the Miss US Latina crown.

Q: What happens if I don't win?
A: If you don't win it's not the end of the world. The Miss Florida Latina Pageant is the only pageant in Florida that allows all of its contestants to become part of an exclusive talent catalog distributed to numerous agencies, studios and other companies; thus providing an opportunity for all contestants to succeed. As a contestant you become part of a talent bank where we sent you information on Casting Calls and other opportunities in your area.

PLUS, we help you build your career through resume assessment, interview techniques and other career related opportunities. Former candidates become an integral part of the Miss Florida Latina Organization as volunteers for the organization in an area related to their career aspiration or talent. This way we will provide a platform where former local titleholders can gain experience in their career fields or can showcase their performing talents. No other pageant brings you this much.

Q: I applied last year to the Miss Florida Latina Pageant, but I was not able to participate. Can I apply again this year?

A:Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply as many times as you wish.
